Who is this seminar for?
Everyone! And that’s because everyone can benefit from strength training. Whether you’re an endurance athlete, a yoga practitioner, a field sport athlete, an outdoor enthusiast, or someone who’s never worked out before, strength training can help you become healthier, perform better, and avoid injury. (It’s fun, too.)
Who will be speaking at this seminar?
Dr. Eric Sobolewski, PhD
Dr. Eric Sobolewski is a Professor of Health Sciences at Furman University. He holds a PhD in Human Movement Sciences from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and his research is primarily focused on human performance and muscular physiology.
During our seminar, he will define strength training (also known as resistance training) and explain how it differs from other types of exercise. He will also discuss why, from a physiological perspective, strength training supports longevity in sport and improvements in health.
Dawn Greene is a licensed massage and body work therapist with 30 years of experience as an ICU nurse under her belt. She is also the founder of Forever Fit, a training program for individuals over 50. As a strength and conditioning coach, Dawn has helped clients of all ages resolve injury, become healthier, and gain more coordination.
During our seminar, she will explain why strength training is important for individuals as they age.
Dr. John Gilliam, DPT
Dr. John Gilliam is a physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) who earned his doctor of physical therapy degree from Western Carolina University. He currently treats patients at Asheville Physical Therapy using a variety of evidence-based interventions.
During our seminar, John will speak about how strength training can prevent and rehabilitate injury.
Dr. Rebecca Cramer, MD
Dr. Rebecca Cramer is a family practice physician who earned her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She currently treats patients at Community Family Practice in Asheville, NC and is also an endurance athlete.
During our seminar, Dr. Cramer will speak about the benefits she’s experienced from incorporating strength training into her workout regimen.
